Restore a curled or brittle photograph
Some old prints have rolled into a tube after decades in a drawer. Flattening them by force snaps the emulsion. A gentle approach is to photograph the curl from above in soft light, then let the bot clean up the shadows and the warped edges.
- 2 credits per image
- Result in 1–2 minutes
- No sign-up
In short: Scan a tightly curled old photo safely, then clean shadows, cracks and warped edges with the Telegram bot. 7 images free for new users, no sign-up needed.
- Where: the VisuMate bot in Telegram, no app or sign-up.
- Cost: 2 credits per image, 7 images free, then packs from 129 Telegram Stars.
- Time: 1 to 2 minutes per image, rerun with a new instruction at the same price.
- Credits never expire, there is no subscription and no auto-renew. You pay once for a pack inside Telegram with Stars.
When you need this
- The print springs back into a scroll when you unfold it.
- Cracks open along the bend.
- Shadows from the curl darken half the picture.
How to do it
- 1
Press the button to open @visumate_ai_bot in Telegram. No sign-up, and new users get 15 free credits, which is 7 images.
- 2
Send the best picture as a file. In the caption write: 'curled old photo, remove curl shadows and perspective warp, repair crack lines, keep faces and the print edge'.
- 3
In 1-2 minutes the restored image arrives for 2 credits. Check the edges that bent the most, since stretched corners can distort faces.
Try it on your own photo: 7 images are free, no sign-up.
Make it in TelegramTake the picture safely
Place the print on a clean towel, which keeps it from rolling off the table. Use a tripod or lean the phone on a stack of books, directly above. If one half stays curled, take two pictures, one of each half, and send them separately. The bot can fix perspective, but the result is better when the camera is square to the surface. Avoid flash because it creates a bright strip along the curl.
Why curling happens
Photographic paper has layers that react differently to humidity. When the air is dry, the emulsion side shrinks and the print curls toward it. Storage in a stable, moderately humid spot lowers that effect. If the print is dear to you, a professional conservator can relax it safely in a controlled chamber. For ordinary family pictures, a careful phone shot and a restored file make the print safe to keep in a box and show on a screen.
Tips
- Photograph the print as it sits instead of forcing it flat.
- Use light from above and slightly behind your phone.
- Weigh the corners with clean coins for a second try.
- Ask a conservator before you humidify a valuable print.
Questions and answers
Can I use steam to flatten it?
It is risky and can ruin the emulsion. Ask a conservator for anything valuable.
Does the bot straighten bent lines?
It can reduce mild warp. Strong curl is better handled with a second shot.
What does it cost?
2 credits per image. New users get 15 free credits, so 7 images cost nothing. After that packs start at 129 Telegram Stars, about $2.6 and credits do not expire.
Does the bot work in English?
Yes. It picks up your Telegram language on first launch. You can switch it any time with /lang.
What the bot does not do
- Does not print photos and does not retouch passport or ID photos.
- Does not promise a fixed pixel size. Check the result at full size before printing.
- Heavily damaged faces are reconstructed by AI and may not look like the person. Compare with another photo.
- Does not make video or animate the photo.
