Restore a Victorian cabinet card portrait
Cabinet cards are the stiff studio portraits mounted on thick card, often with a photographer's name printed at the bottom. They fade to brown, foxed and silvered. Send a straight photo, and the bot cleans the face and keeps the character of the print.

Make it in TelegramMount and inscription
The studio name, city and sometimes a decorative border on the card are historical clues. If you crop to the portrait, you lose them. Keep the full card in one version and the portrait only in another. Photograph the back as well, since a pencil note there may be the only record of who these people were. Both versions belong in the family archive.
How faces are treated
Old portraits were exposed for long periods, so sitters look serious, and fading flattens the features. The bot rebuilds eyes, lips and fabric texture, staying close to what the print shows. Because detail is inferred, compare the restored face with relatives who look similar, and read the result as a careful restoration, with some detail rebuilt by the model, and label each file with the year if you know it.
Tips
- Shoot the whole card, including the printed studio name and city.
- Avoid glare from the glossy surface by tilting the card slightly.
- Ask to keep sepia tones if you prefer a period look.
- Photograph the back too, since handwritten names help the family tree.
