Restore a photogravure plate from an old book or magazine
Many early twentieth century portraits survive only as plates in books and magazines. They were printed from a screen of fine dots, so a scan looks speckled and flat. Send a photo of the page and the bot smooths the pattern into a continuous picture while keeping the faces.

Make it in TelegramDots become a picture
A halftone breaks a picture into dots of different size. When you scan it, the scanner and the dots interfere and make a wavy pattern. The bot reads the dots as tone and rebuilds a smooth image. Fine hair and lace are invented from context, so they look plausible and may differ from the real photograph that was used for the plate.
Credit the source
A picture from a published book has an author and a date, and the plate is often the only trace of a lost original. Write the title, the page and the year in the file name. If the book is still under copyright, keep the restored copy for family use and do not publish it. Ask a library whether the original negative or print survives, since a scan of that would be better still.
Tips
- Crop the plate from the page before sending it.
- Tell the bot if the picture came from a magazine or a book.
- Scan at a higher resolution than you think you need.
- Note the title and the year of the book.
Questions and answers
Will the dots disappear completely?
Most of them. Strong patterns may leave a faint texture you can ask to smooth again.
Can it color the plate?
You can add a colorize request in the caption, and the result is a guess.
What does it cost?
2 credits per image. New users get 15 free credits, so 7 images cost nothing. After that packs start at 129 Telegram Stars, about $2.6 and credits do not expire.
Does the bot work in English?
Yes. It picks up your Telegram language on first launch. You can switch it any time with /lang.
What the bot does not do
- Does not print photos and does not retouch passport or ID photos.
- Does not promise a fixed pixel size. Check the result at full size before printing.
- Heavily damaged faces are reconstructed by AI and may not look like the person. Compare with another photo.
- Does not make video or animate the photo.
