Restore old photos for genealogy
Genealogy projects often start with a shoebox of damaged prints. Scan them, send the worst ones to the bot and keep both versions in an organized folder.

BeforeAfter
In short: Work through a box of ancestor photographs: scan, clean the damage and file the results. Tips for dating, naming and keeping originals.
- Where: the VisuMate bot in Telegram, no app or sign-up.
- Cost: 2 credits per image, 7 images free, then packs from 49 Telegram Stars.
- Time: 1 to 2 minutes per image, rerun with a new instruction at the same price.
When you need this
- Dozens of prints in a shoebox, with no names and no dates.
- A family history book needs clean pictures but the originals are fragile.
- Relatives want copies and you do not want to hand out the originals.
How to do it
- 1
Open @visumate_ai_bot in Telegram with the button on this page and press Start. No sign-up is needed.
- 2
Send the scan or phone picture as a file (document) so Telegram does not compress it. In the caption write: genealogy archive photo, remove scratches and stains, keep faces and clothing unchanged.
- 3
Wait 1-2 minutes for the result. Zoom in on the damaged areas, and if one is still visible, send it again with a more exact caption.
Try it on your own photo: 7 images are free, no sign-up.
Make it in TelegramSet up a simple workflow
Make three folders: originals, restored and notes. Scan each print front and back. Send damaged ones to the bot and save the results in the restored folder with the same file name plus a suffix. Write short notes about who is in the picture and where the information came from. This keeps the record clear even after many photos. A better scan helps more than any setting, so rescan the print at 600 dpi or higher if you still have it.
What restoration does and does not do
The bot cleans damage and keeps faces and clothes. It does not identify people and it does not date photos. Clothing, hairstyles and photo formats can help you guess a decade, but written records should decide. If the AI reconstructs a damaged face, mark the picture as restored in your notes so no one treats it as evidence. The bot replies in English. You can switch the language any time with /lang.
Tips
- Scan the back of each print too, handwriting often has names and dates.
- Use a naming pattern like surname-given-year-place, and keep the original scan untouched.
- Start with the pictures that would otherwise not fit a book.
- Do not guess at identities from a restored face alone, use records.
Questions and answers
Can the bot date a photo?
No. It only repairs and colorizes.
Is it OK to share restored photos online?
Yes, label them as restored.
How do I scan many photos quickly?
A flatbed scanner at 600 dpi is steady. A phone works too, using daylight and a flat surface.
Should I colorize ancestor photos?
It is optional. Keep a black-and-white copy as well.
