Restore a faded old photo
Fading turns blacks to gray and flattens faces. The bot restores contrast and detail and keeps the photo black and white. Faces, clothes and background stay as they were.

BeforeAfter
In short: Washed-out gray prints with low contrast regain depth in 1-2 minutes. Send a scan or a phone picture of the print and compare the result.
- Where: the VisuMate bot in Telegram, no app or sign-up.
- Cost: 2 credits per image, 7 images free, then packs from 49 Telegram Stars.
- Time: 1 to 2 minutes per image, rerun with a new instruction at the same price.
When you need this
- A photo has turned pale and the faces barely stand out from the wall.
- Highlights are gone and the shadows look muddy.
- You tried a contrast slider and it only made the noise louder.
How to do it
- 1
Use the button on this page to open the bot in Telegram, then press Start. Your 15 free credits appear on first launch.
- 2
Send the scan or phone picture as a file (document) so Telegram does not compress it. In the caption write: faded photo, restore contrast, keep it black and white.
- 3
Wait 1-2 minutes for the result. Zoom in on the damaged areas, and if one is still visible, send it again with a more exact caption.
Try it on your own photo: 7 images are free, no sign-up.
Make it in TelegramWhy contrast sliders fall short
A simple contrast tool stretches whatever is there, including paper texture and dust. A faded photo has lost real tones, and sliders cannot bring them back. The AI judges the photo as a whole: it knows what faces and walls should look like and restores midtones in a believable way. The result usually has more depth, but it is still a reconstruction. Midtones come back first, deep blacks need a little more care. If your result looks flat, mention that you want rich blacks in the caption.
Scanning a pale print
Use 600 dpi for a standard print and 300 for a large one. Turn off automatic corrections in your scanner software. A pale print often has low contrast edges that automatic sharpening makes crunchy. Send a clean scan as a file so Telegram does not compress it. A phone picture works too: shoot in even daylight without flash and keep the paper flat.
Tips
- Scan in color mode even for a black-and-white print, because faded paper has a tint you can control later.
- Do not auto-enhance before sending, give the AI the original.
- Compare the result with a lightly adjusted copy of your scan to see what changed.
- If the photo is both faded and cracked, use the repair mode, it handles both.
