Restore an albumen photograph
Albumen prints were made with egg white, and after a century and a half the highlights turn cream, the shadows go brown and thin cracks spread across the glossy surface. A good scan captures all of it. The bot then smooths the damage and keeps the image.

How to do it
- 1
Press the button to open @visumate_ai_bot in Telegram. No sign-up, and new users get 15 free credits, which is 7 images.
- 2
Send the scan as a file. In the caption write: 'albumen print, restore highlights, reduce yellowing, soften hairline cracks, keep fine detail in clothing and buildings'.
- 3
In 1-2 minutes the restored scan arrives for 2 credits. Zoom into the cracks to see whether the skin kept its natural texture.
Try it on your own photo: 7 images are free, no sign-up.
Make it in TelegramCracks versus detail
Hairline cracks and real detail look alike to software. Hair, lace and brick all have thin lines, so aggressive cleanup erases them with the damage. Ask for gentle crack removal first. Look at the result at full size and decide whether the face looks too smooth. If it does, rerun and write 'keep fine texture, reduce only the crack lines'. You will usually land on a balance after two attempts.
Warm tone is part of the charm
Cream and brown tones are how many people recognize an old photograph, and a perfectly neutral gray version can feel wrong. Decide whether you want the warm tone kept or removed. Write it in the caption in plain words. A neutral version is easier to color later, while a warm one suits framing for a hallway wall. Producing both costs four credits and settles the question.
Tips
- Use a dark non-reflective cover when scanning glossy surfaces.
- Handle the print with clean cotton gloves.
- Scan twice, one flat and one at a slight angle, to avoid glare.
- Keep the scan as an uncropped master file.
Questions and answers
Can I fix the print itself?
No. The bot works on your scan. Physical conservation needs a specialist.
Does it remove silvering?
It reduces the visible effect. A separate page covers silvering in detail.
What does it cost?
2 credits per image. New users get 15 free credits, so 7 images cost nothing. After that packs start at 129 Telegram Stars, about $2.6 and credits do not expire.
Does the bot work in English?
Yes. It picks up your Telegram language on first launch. You can switch it any time with /lang.
What the bot does not do
- Does not print photos and does not retouch passport or ID photos.
- Does not promise a fixed pixel size. Check the result at full size before printing.
- Heavily damaged faces are reconstructed by AI and may not look like the person. Compare with another photo.
- Does not make video or animate the photo.
