Restore a photograph from the years around the First World War
A photo from the 1910s often shows a young man in a new uniform or a family dressed for the one studio visit of the decade. The prints are thin, brown and sometimes cracked at the edges. Send a straight photo of it and the bot rebuilds contrast and clears the damage.

Make it in TelegramWhat a 1910s print usually needs
Prints from this decade were often made on thin paper and mounted on cardboard that browned with age. Expect yellow edges, a flat gray middle and fine cracks across dark areas. The bot lifts the shadows, removes the stains and rebuilds the face from what is still visible. Medals and buttons that survived in the original stay put. Anything that vanished entirely is guessed, so compare with the source.
Telling the story with the picture
Military pictures from that period often travel with a letter or a diary. Photograph those pages next to the portrait so the names do not get separated again. Once the portrait is restored, print one copy on matte paper and save a digital copy in two places. If a regimental museum or a local archive asks for it, tell them it was cleaned with software and offer the original scan too.
Tips
- Write the name and unit on the back before you send the front.
- Do not rub a brittle print with a cloth to clean it first.
- Ask to keep a warm sepia tone if the original was printed that way.
- Keep the untouched scan as a separate archive file.
