Restore a Victorian portrait photograph
Victorian sitters held still for long exposures, which is why they look so serious and so sharp around the eyes when a print survives well. Most do not survive well. Send a scan, and the bot lifts the haze, clears spots and keeps the formal pose as it was.

Make it in TelegramKeep the stillness
Victorian faces look severe because people sat motionless for several seconds. A restoration should respect that. If the bot warms the mouth into a smile or evens out the eyes too much, rerun and add 'keep the original expression and facial asymmetry'. Small asymmetries are what make an ancestor recognizable to a descendant who has seen only one other picture of them.
Dark corners
Underexposed props and furniture swallow detail in these prints. Brightening the whole picture can wash the face, so ask for shadow lift only. The chair, a book on the table or a hand resting on a cane often tells something about the sitter's life. Leave it to the bot to recover them, then ask a relative whether the objects ring a bell. Store the card flat in acid-free paper.
Tips
- Do not ask for a smile. Keep the original expression.
- Describe the collar or bonnet if it is hard to see.
- Scan the whole card, even if you only want the face.
- Compare the final result with the original at print size.
Questions and answers
Can the bot guess the year?
No. Use clothing, the studio mark and family notes to date it.
Does it work on a very small print?
Yes, if the scan is large and sharp. Rescan at a higher setting first.
What does it cost?
2 credits per image. New users get 15 free credits, so 7 images cost nothing. After that packs start at 129 Telegram Stars, about $2.6 and credits do not expire.
Does the bot work in English?
Yes. It picks up your Telegram language on first launch. You can switch it any time with /lang.
What the bot does not do
- Does not print photos and does not retouch passport or ID photos.
- Does not promise a fixed pixel size. Check the result at full size before printing.
- Heavily damaged faces are reconstructed by AI and may not look like the person. Compare with another photo.
- Does not make video or animate the photo.
