A seam running through a face is the hardest case. The bot lines up features on both sides and fills the narrow strip between them, but eyes and mouths should be checked with care. If the two halves were photographed at a slight angle, the join may bend, so shoot from straight above with even light. Small gaps along the edge are filled from what surrounds them.
Do not tape it
Tape yellows and damages paper, and it leaves a sticky mark that is harder to treat than the tear. Keep the pieces apart in a folder with a sheet of paper between them, or ask a conservator to join them with proper materials.
