When a streak crosses a face or a hand, a plain smoothing filter makes it blurry. The bot repaints the narrow strip using nearby pixels and what it understands about faces. The result should keep eyelashes and fabric weave intact. Point out where the line is so it does not mistake a real wrinkle or a seam for damage. After the fix, zoom to full size and follow the strip with your eye.
Better scans make better repairs
Some lines come from dust inside the lid or on the sensor, and cleaning is a better cure than software. Still, if a family archive is already scanned and the prints are gone, a fix is all you have. Rescan important photos in a different position when you can, because two versions with lines in different places give the bot more to work with and let you pick the cleaner one.
