BeforeAfter
In short: Oily smudges and fingerprint marks that show up in scans of old prints can be cleaned from a clear scan or phone picture.
- Where: the VisuMate bot in Telegram, no app or sign-up.
- Cost: 2 credits per image, 7 images free, then packs from 49 Telegram Stars.
- Time: 1 to 2 minutes per image, rerun with a new instruction at the same price.
When you need this
- Years of handling left hazy marks across a glossy print.
- A fingerprint covers part of a face.
- Photographing the print makes the smudges shine.
How to do it
- 1
Use the button on this page to open the bot in Telegram, then press Start. Your 15 free credits appear on first launch.
- 2
Send the scan or phone picture as a file (document) so Telegram does not compress it. In the caption write: fingerprints on the lower half, remove smudges and keep the faces.
- 3
Wait 1-2 minutes for the result. Zoom in on the damaged areas, and if one is still visible, send it again with a more exact caption.
Try it on your own photo: 7 images are free, no sign-up.
Make it in TelegramWhy fingerprints show on scans
Oil from skin changes how light reflects, so a fingerprint can be nearly invisible in dim light and obvious under a scanner lamp. The smudge pattern has a recognizable shape, and the AI treats it as a layer to remove from the picture. Large smears across a face may soften skin detail, so it is worth looking at the result with the original beside it.
Where to look in the result
Check black areas like hair and suits, where smudge removal can leave a pale halo. If that happens, rerun the picture with a caption that says keep deep blacks. Also look at glasses and teeth, where reflective details can change. Smooth, glossy surfaces such as cars and tableware can also lose real highlights, so compare them carefully. Handle the original print by the edges and store it in an acid-free sleeve away from sunlight and damp.
Tips
- Photograph with soft light from above, not from the side, to reduce shine.
- Never wipe the print with a cloth or alcohol.
- Fingerprints show more on dark areas. Check shadows after the run.
- Wear cotton gloves when handling old prints.
