Shadows and noise

Lifting shadows also lifts noise, so a good result needs a balance. Ask for a calm brightening and mild noise reduction. If faces look plastic, say 'keep grain'. Grain is part of why an old photo feels honest. Compare two runs and choose the one that still looks like a photograph. Run it once, look at the face at full size, and only then decide whether to rerun.

Mood matters

A dim birthday scene should stay warm. A winter evening can stay blue. State the mood you want to keep, or the bot may turn everything into a flat daylight. For backlit portraits, ask to brighten the faces and leave the window bright. Save the dark original, since some details only make sense in the first version.
