Recover a print stuck inside a cloudy plastic pocket
Some old plastic album sleeves cloud, soften and bond to the print inside. Photograph the pocket in daylight and the bot reduces the haze and cleans the surface marks so the picture reads clearly again.

Soft plastic that has bonded with an emulsion can take the surface of the print with it when peeled. Photograph the print in its pocket first, so you have a record, and ask a conservator whether a safe release is possible at all. Some plastics release chemicals that harm pictures over time, which is another reason to copy the content now.
Light and angle
Plastic reflects bright objects, so shoot in soft light with no lamps or windows facing the page. A slightly tilted camera pushes reflections out of the shot. A black cloth or card held beside the camera can cut a reflection further. Take several photos and send the one with the fewest bright patches. Haze that comes from the plastic itself can be lowered by the bot, though deep milky areas will keep some softness.
Tips
- Do not peel the plastic from the print.
- Shoot from a few angles and send the clearest.
- Avoid windows and lamps in the shot.
- Photograph the page with its notes as well.
