Pure white has no data, so the bot has to guess. Light grey still has some. If you see a hint of a nose or a collar, a recovery works well. If a face is completely white, the result is an informed guess and should be treated that way. Compare with other photos of the same person to check likeness.
Better scanning
A scanner set to a darker exposure can reveal faint detail that a phone picture misses. Try two scans, one normal and one darker, and send the one that shows more. Do not use heavy filters before sending. Let the bot work with a clean source, and keep the original untouched for any later attempt with better tools. Scan at 600 dpi if the print is small, and save the file without compression.
