Make it in TelegramGenre signals
Readers pick genres by color and composition. Romance often uses warm tones, thrillers use contrast and a lone figure, fantasy uses landscape and light. Name the genre and the main mood in the prompt. Ask for empty space where the title will sit. Compare your concepts with bestselling covers in the same category to check that you send the right signal. Show two or three concepts to readers in your genre and ask which one they would pick up first, before you commit.
Concept, then production
A concept image tells a designer what you want. It may not meet print specifications, such as resolution, bleed and spine. Check the requirements of your publishing platform. Add the title and author name in a layout tool for exact typography. Review the license terms for generated images before you use one on a published book. Keep the best concept and its prompt in your project folder to hand to a designer later.
Tips
- Name the genre and the mood.
- Leave space for the title and author.
- Look at competitors' covers for conventions.
- Treat the result as a concept unless you hold the right to publish.
