A professor headshot for the faculty page and the book jacket
A faculty page photo gets copied into programs, journals and news stories for years. It deserves better than a hallway snapshot. Send a phone photo, describe your department's mood, and the bot returns a composed portrait that suits a lecture hall or a library shelf.

Make it in TelegramScholarly without stiffness
Colleagues and students both read this photo. Aim for a look that says expert and approachable, with a calm gaze and a relaxed jaw. A bookshelf or a window works nicely if kept blurred. Avoid giant gowns unless a ceremony calls for one. If the bot polishes you too much, rerun with 'natural skin and real age'. Credibility comes from a face that matches the person who walks into class.
Institution rules
Universities often have a style guide for staff photos, with a preferred crop or background color. Check it before you replace your page picture, and ask the web office about file formats. For conferences, a wide crop with open space helps the organizers lay out a title card. Keep your original photo in a folder labeled with the year so you can compare faces and update the portrait every few years.
Tips
- Pick the backdrop to match your field, a library for humanities or a lab corner for sciences.
- Keep gray hair and lines as they are.
- Choose muted clothing colors.
- Save a large version for print and a small one for the web.
