A fold creates a vertical or horizontal band where the surface is cracked and brighter. In a group photo the band often passes through one or two people. The bot treats the band as damage and fills it from the neighbors, so clothes and walls recover well. Faces on the fold are rebuilt in a narrow strip, and a person's likeness can drift slightly.
Flattening before you scan
Old paper can be dry and brittle. Lay it between two sheets of clean paper under a stack of books for a day or two. Do not use water, steam or heat. If the fold still springs back, scan under a sheet of glass. This gives the AI a sharper line to work with, and you may spend fewer credits on repeat runs.
Tips
- Unfold gently, never press hard on a brittle old print.
- Scan folds with the paper held flat under glass, so the fold does not cast shadows.
- A fold across several faces at once may need two runs, one for each area.
- Compare the person standing on the fold with other photos of them if you have any.

Is a fold different from a crease?
In practice they are similar. A fold is a long straight line, a crease is usually shorter and more random.
Can it fix a photo folded four times?
Yes, but send a clear scan. Cross points where two folds meet are the hardest.
Will it remove the paper texture too?
It aims to keep the print as it is and remove only the damage.
Do I need to tell the bot where the fold is?
