Why the wax is a tricky repair

Wax sits on top of the print and scatters light, so the area underneath looks washed out instead of dark. The bot has to infer what the face looked like. If the patch covers an eye or a mouth, the guess can drift from the real person. A second photograph of the same sitter in the caption helps, and so does checking the result with someone who knew them.

Memorial pictures and care

Many wax marked photographs belong to a shrine or a family altar, and the damage has its own story. A restored copy can take the place on the shelf while the original rests in a safe sleeve.
