What photo restoration costs at a studio and with AI
Prices for restoring a single old photo differ a lot from one studio to the next. Public price lists we checked run from a few tens of dollars for a light touch-up to a few hundred for heavy reconstruction. AI costs far less per image, with different trade-offs.

When you need this
- Quotes arrive only after the studio sees the photo.
- Heavy damage can multiply the first price.
- A whole album adds up quickly at per-photo rates.
How to do it
- 1
Press the button to open @visumate_ai_bot in Telegram. No sign-up, and new users get 15 free credits, which is 7 images.
- 2
Sort your photos into light damage, medium damage and heavy damage. Send the light ones to the bot first with a caption such as 'remove the creases and restore contrast'.
- 3
Each result costs 2 credits and arrives in 1-2 minutes. Keep the one or two photos that matter most for a human retoucher if the AI result still looks wrong.
Try it on your own photo: 7 images are free, no sign-up.
Make it in TelegramWhat moves a studio price
Studios usually price by the amount of repair work, so a faded but intact print costs less than one with missing corners or a torn face. Scanning, print size, rush delivery and the number of people in the picture can each add a line. Prices vary by studio and by country, so collect two or three quotes and compare what each one lists as included.
Where AI fits
AI is cheap and quick for common problems such as fading, scratches, noise and color. It is weaker where the picture lost real information, for example a face torn away or a name that nobody can read, because the tool has to guess. A sensible plan is to run everything through AI first, then pay a retoucher for the few prints where an exact likeness matters most.
Tips
- Ask a studio what the quote includes.
- Ask whether scanning is billed separately.
- Ask how many revision rounds are included.
- Keep originals until you are happy with a result.
Questions and answers
Is a studio always better than AI?
A skilled retoucher can handle hard cases with more control. For routine fading and scratches, AI is often enough.
Can I use both?
Yes. Try the bot first, then take the best result to a studio for finishing.
What does it cost?
2 credits per image. New users get 15 free credits, so 7 images cost nothing. After that packs start at 129 Telegram Stars, about $2.6 and credits do not expire.
Does the bot work in English?
Yes. It picks up your Telegram language on first launch. You can switch it any time with /lang.
What the bot does not do
- Does not print photos and does not retouch passport or ID photos.
- Does not promise a fixed pixel size. Check the result at full size before printing.
- Heavily damaged faces are reconstructed by AI and may not look like the person. Compare with another photo.
- Does not make video or animate the photo.
