Black and white photo to color prompt

A good colorizing prompt names the colors you know and leaves the rest to the AI. Below are prompts you can copy, and the same wording works as a caption in the bot.

Prompts with color hints

Prompt: Colorize this photo in natural colors. Her dress is dark blue, her hair is brown, the wall behind is cream.

Prompt: Colorize this portrait. Natural warm skin tones, brown eyes, a gray wool jacket and a white shirt.

Prompt: Colorize this soldier's photo. The uniform is olive green, the belt is brown leather, the background stays muted.

Prompt: Colorize this wedding photo. White dress, black suit, a bouquet of pale pink flowers, soft daylight.

Prompt: Colorize this street scene from the past with colors typical for the era: faded brick, dark coats, a dark green car. Keep it muted.

Prompt: Colorize this family photo. I do not know the clothes, so choose modest believable colors and keep the grain.

Hints that help

Skin: say natural skin tones and name eye or hair color if you remember it. Uniforms: name the base color and metal parts, such as olive with brass buttons, because patterns and insignia are guesses. Dresses and suits: one color per garment works best. Era colors: browns, grays, deep blues and greens look right for many old photos, while bright primary colors rarely do.

If you do not remember a color, leave it out.

How to avoid oversaturation

Add the words natural, muted and soft to the prompt. Do not ask for vibrant or vivid. Name fewer colors, since a long list pushes the AI to use all of them at once. Check the sky, grass and lips first, because these go bright most often. If the result is too strong, rerun with the same photo and add the words low saturation. A rerun costs the same as the first run.

Tips

Questions and answers

Will the AI follow my color hints?

Usually yes for large objects like clothes and walls. Small details may be missed, so check and rerun if needed.

Can the colors be historically accurate?

Not guaranteed. Unless you provide hints, colors are believable guesses.

Is grain kept?

Yes, film grain is kept.

Can I write the prompt in English?

Yes. The bot replies in English. You can switch the language any time with /lang.

Should I repair the photo first?

If it has scratches or stains, yes. The combined restore-and-colorize mode does both in one run for 2 credits.
