Size and ratio

Stories use a vertical full-screen format with a 9:16 aspect ratio. The size most guides name is 1080×1920 pixels, which is the same ratio. Instagram's own help page with exact figures was not available when this page was checked, so treat the pixel value as a common guideline and look up the current recommendation in the Instagram app or Meta's help center before a paid campaign. Safe zones in practice

The app draws your profile name at the top and the reply bar at the bottom. Keep text away from the top and bottom edges where the interface sits. Meta publishes more detailed guidance for story ads, so if you run ads, look for the current figures there. For ordinary stories, a simple rule is enough: the subject and the words live in the middle part of the frame, and the edges hold background only.

Asking the bot for clean edges

Write the layout into the description. For example: a bakery story, croissants on a linen cloth, warm light, text 'Fresh at 7 AM' in the middle third, plain background at the top and bottom.
